CCR Draft Notes
QUESTIONS:
1. How do your products represent social groups or issues?
2. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of branding?
3. How do your products engage with the audience?
4. How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?
1)
- Age
- Gender
- Class & Status
- Love & Romance
- Camera shots - Close ups (give insight to emotions and expressions)
- People concerned with love - wanting an established relationship
- Wedding/dance scenes - visible/proof of commitment, loyalty
- Chloe & Oscar - authentic, raw performance; white shirt - blank slate, purity
- Lyrics - questioning themselves & their flaws, genuine & authentic, on stage
- Dance - being alone in the room dancing shows they're the most important people to each other in the room, paints the relationship in a positive light, meaningful
- Mature/maturity - not stereotypical teenagers/younger generation
- Empty rooms (MISE_EN_SCENE) - focus on the relationship being most important, having all guards and pretenses down/on display, being your true self
- Long shots - challenging normal music video conventions, allows for more audience engagement
2) Branding
- Star image - across all products
- Font - recognisable, associated with Ed
- Colours - style, theme, moody (relates to lyrics)
- Artist - down to earth, empty room (not a performance for others to see)
3)
- Social media - links to website, tour dates, merch, stories, highlights
- Products - predictable branding, representative of Ed
4) Conventions
- Unlike how many artists are concerned with rights and political voice, it doesn't conform to usual conventions, just like how Ed doesn't share these on his instagram
- Challenges using quick cuts as it is a slower song - shots are more drawn out - deeper engagement
- Only 2 locations, most MVs have 3 or more
